What is web hosting?

Web hosting means the service that makes our websites available to be viewed by others on the Internet all the time. A web host provides space on its server, so that other computers around the world can access our websites by using a network or modem.

As for how to upload a website to a hosted server account, the typical way is to use an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program.

Here is how to do: To select the files and folders we want to upload from our computers in our computer windows, and then "drag and drop" them over to the server window ( i.e. copying them to the server- the web hosting account).

  1. Hi Cindy,

You know it wasn't until this assignment that I knew how to post a website on the web. It is slightly more complicated than I had expected it to have been but it's still not too difficult now that I dug up an FTP client.

  3. If the host you are using does not have a drag and drop feature you can always use a program like FileZilla to connect to your FTP server and modify it from there!
